If you want a video editor with no watermark, you have more free options than the search results suggest. The rules differ in each app, and "free" usually costs you something other than money. A logo in the corner of a reel tells viewers, and clients, which app you used. It also makes reposting to another platform look sloppy.
Here is what each popular editor does on export, checked in October 2026, and where the cost moves once the watermark is gone. Policies change, so export a short test before you rely on any of them for client work.
Which video editors export with no watermark?
| Editor | Free plan watermark? | How to export clean | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|---|
| iMovie | No | Nothing to do | Mac, iPhone, iPad |
| DaVinci Resolve (free) | No, unless you use Studio-only effects | Remove Studio-only effects before rendering | Windows, Mac, Linux |
| VN | No, per its own listing | Remove the small end credit if it's there | iOS, Android, desktop |
| Instagram Edits | No, as widely reported | Nothing to do | iOS, Android |
| CapCut | The editor itself, no; many templates add a logo outro | Delete the ending clip, or edit without a template | Mobile, desktop, web |
| Canva | Only on Pro (paid) elements | Use free elements only, or pay | Browser, apps |
| InShot | Yes, a logo bottom right | Pay for Pro | iOS, Android |
iMovie: free and clean on Apple devices
iMovie is free on Mac and iPhone and doesn't stamp anything on your export. It's simple, it handles vertical video, and it's the easiest answer if you're on Apple hardware. How to edit reels on a Mac covers the vertical setup.
DaVinci Resolve: free, with one trap
The free version of Resolve adds no watermark by default. The trap is the effects library: some Resolve FX and Fairlight FX are Studio-only, and if you apply one in the free version, a watermark shows in the viewer. Resolve warns you first. Swap those effects for free ones before you render.
VN: free with no watermark on the main export
VN's own listing describes it as free with no watermark, and its FAQ is reported to keep some higher export resolutions for paid users. If you see a small end credit, you can remove it before export.
Instagram Edits: free, clean, Instagram-shaped
Meta's Edits app is free and is widely reported to export without a watermark. It's built for Reels, so it fits if Instagram is your main platform. More in our look at the Edits app.
CapCut: the logo usually comes from the template
CapCut's own help pages say the app doesn't add a watermark to exports by itself. The logo people see comes from template outros: a short ending clip with the CapCut brand. Delete that clip, or edit in the normal editor instead of a template, and the export is clean. Some premium templates and assets sit behind CapCut Pro. CapCut alternatives covers the other reasons people leave.
Canva: clean if everything is free
Canva says a free account exports without a watermark as long as the footage, images and music you use are free content. Add a Pro element and its watermark comes with it until you pay for that element or for Pro.
InShot: the free version is branded
InShot's free version puts its logo in the bottom right of exports. Watching an ad can remove it for one export, and Pro removes it for good. The "Remove ads" purchase on its own doesn't remove the watermark, which catches a lot of people out. InShot vs CapCut compares the two in more depth.
What does "free with no watermark" actually cost?
The watermark is the visible price. Once an app drops it, the cost usually moves to one of these:
- Locked features. Studio-only effects in Resolve, premium templates and assets in CapCut, Pro elements in Canva. You find out at export.
- Resolution. Some free tiers reserve the highest export settings for paid users. Check the export menu before you shoot in a format you can't deliver.
- Ads and prompts. Ad-supported apps trade the logo for your attention.
- Your time. This is the big one. A free timeline editor is clean, but every video is built by hand: import, trim, cut to the music, add text, grade, export. For one video a month that's fine. For five reels a week, the hours are the real bill.
Which one should you pick?
Pick by device and by how often you post:
- Apple devices, simple edits: iMovie.
- Serious colour and full control: DaVinci Resolve, free version, with Studio-only effects removed.
- Phone, free, flexible: VN or CapCut (without the template outro).
- Instagram first: Edits.
- Brand graphics and text-led videos: Canva, free elements only, or Pro.
- You'll pay to keep InShot: InShot Pro.
What if you post the same kind of reel every week?
Then the watermark isn't your bottleneck; repetition is. That's where Easy Reels fits, and where it doesn't.
Easy Reels is a browser app that edits your own clips and photos to music. You upload a song, it detects the beats, puts your clips on the cuts, applies your colour filter and saved text, and renders a 1440x2560 vertical MP4 of up to 60 seconds. The MP4 is yours to download and post anywhere. The whole edit is saved as a template, so the next video is one click, and a batch makes 10 videos on Pro or 50 on Ultra, each drawing different clips.
What it isn't: a free editor or a timeline editor. There's no free plan. You get a 14-day free trial with full access, then it's $19 a month for Pro or $39 for Ultra, and you can cancel before the trial ends without being charged. See pricing. If you make one careful video a month, a free editor from the table above is the better pick. If you need a stack of beat-cut reels from the same footage, see how to batch create reels, then start the trial with one song and one folder of clips and judge the first batch yourself.
Common questions
Is there a completely free video editor with no watermark?
Yes. iMovie, DaVinci Resolve's free version, VN and Instagram's Edits all export without a watermark on their free tiers. With Resolve, avoid Studio-only effects; with CapCut, remove the template's logo outro.
Why does my CapCut video have a watermark?
Usually because you used a template that ends with a CapCut logo clip. Delete that ending clip in the editor before you export, or build the video in the normal editor instead of from a template.
Does InShot have a free version without a watermark?
Not permanently. The free version adds a logo; you can remove it for a single export by watching an ad, or for good with InShot Pro. Buying "Remove ads" alone doesn't remove it.
Does Canva add a watermark to free videos?
Only when you use Pro or paid elements on a free account. Free elements export clean. Paying for the element or for Canva Pro removes the watermark on paid ones.
