Content repurposing tool: which one fits your source

Pick a content repurposing tool by what you start with. For long video into clips, AI clippers like Opus Clip or Vizard rank moments for you and Descript lets you cut by transcript; Castmagic-type tools turn audio into written posts, and Repurpose.io cross-posts finished videos. For footage you already have, Easy Reels turns folders of clips into beat-cut reels from templates, and its MCP lets Claude or ChatGPT cut a named moment from a long recording.

A content repurposing tool takes something you've already made and turns it into something new to post, and the right one depends on what you start with. A tool that's great at clipping a podcast is of little use for a folder of product b-roll, and the reverse is true too.

So instead of a single ranked list, this guide sorts the tools by source: long video, audio, written posts, finished videos and raw footage. Find your row, then read the section for it.

How do you turn a long video into clips?

Two approaches, depending on whether you know which moments you want.

If you want the tool to find the moments, use an AI clipper. Opus Clip, Vizard and Klap take a long upload, find the parts that stand alone, crop to vertical and add captions. They're fast for discovery. The trade-offs: the AI picks, the clips share a house style, and they're built around speech, so footage with music and no words gives them less to work with. Opus Clip alternatives compares them in more detail.

If you already know the moment, an AI clipper's ranking gets in the way. Two better options:

  • Descript transcribes the recording, and you make a clip by selecting the lines you want.
  • The Easy Reels MCP connects Easy Reels to Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP app. You type a request such as "the 40 seconds where she explains pricing, captions in our font", and the AI looks at timestamped frames and a transcript first, then cuts that part. Easy Reels renders it in 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9, up to 3 minutes. It's on the Ultra plan.

Either way, turn one long video into a week of reels covers what makes a moment usable, and how to crop 16:9 to 9:16 without losing the subject.

How do you turn audio or video into written posts?

Tools in the Castmagic category transcribe a recording and draft text from it: titles, show notes, social posts, newsletter drafts. They save the blank-page part. They don't know your voice or your facts any better than the transcript does, so treat the output as a first draft and check every claim against the recording.

How do you turn posts into carousels?

A carousel is the natural shape for a blog post or a thread: one idea per slide. Canva has carousel templates, and many teams already design there. In Easy Reels the same editor that makes reels also makes carousels of up to 20 still cards in 4:5, 1:1, 9:16 or 16:9, with layers for images, text, filters and adjustments, so reels and carousels can share the same fonts and colour look. Instagram carousel sizes lists the dimensions.

How do you post one video everywhere?

That's distribution, not editing. Repurpose.io watches a source channel and republishes new uploads to the other networks. It's the right tool when the video is finished and the work is posting it five times. Cross-posting reels to TikTok and Shorts covers what to change per platform.

How do you turn footage you already have into new reels?

This is the source most tools ignore: months of clips and photos sitting in a camera roll or a drive. They're not a long video to clip; they're a pile of short pieces that need to be edited into something new, and a re-cut has to look new rather than like a repost. Turn old footage into new reels explains what makes the difference.

Easy Reels is built for this. You put the clips in library folders and build a template once: a song with its beats detected automatically, a cut style, a colour filter and a text design. Each render draws different clips from the folders and puts them on the beat, and copy pools give each video a different hook. A batch makes 10 videos on Pro or 50 on Ultra, as 1440x2560 vertical MP4s of up to 60 seconds. It never invents footage; every frame is yours.

What it isn't: an AI clipper that ranks moments in a long recording by itself, or a free tool. There's no free plan. A 14-day free trial gives full access; Pro is $19 a month and Ultra, which adds the MCP, $39. Cancel before the trial ends and you aren't charged. See pricing.

Which content repurposing tool should you pick?

  • Podcasts and webinars, you want the AI to find clips: an AI clipper such as Opus Clip or Vizard.
  • Long recordings, you know the moment: Descript, or the Easy Reels MCP with Claude or ChatGPT.
  • Written posts from audio: a Castmagic-type tool, then edit by hand.
  • Posts into carousels: Canva, or Easy Reels if you also make reels there.
  • One finished video, many platforms: Repurpose.io.
  • A library of clips that should become new reels every week: Easy Reels templates.

Start with your biggest pile of unused material and pick the row that matches it.

Common questions

What is a content repurposing tool?

Software that turns content you've already made into new formats: long videos into short clips, recordings into written posts, posts into carousels, or raw footage into new reels. Most tools handle one of those, not all.

Is there a free content repurposing tool?

Several have free tiers with limits, such as watermarks, lower resolution or short storage. CapCut is free for cutting clips by hand. Easy Reels has a 14-day free trial but no free plan.

Can AI repurpose a long video into reels?

Yes. AI clippers pick moments automatically. With the Easy Reels MCP, Claude or ChatGPT reads timestamped frames and the transcript, then cuts the moment you describe.

What's the difference between repurposing and reposting?

Reposting puts the same video on another platform. Repurposing makes something new from it: a different length, format, hook or edit.
