CapCut beat sync: how to cut clips to the beat, step by step

CapCut beat sync works two ways. Auto Cut (Beat Sync on desktop) takes your clips and a song and slices them to the beat for you; beat markers put flags on the music so you trim each clip to them by hand. Auto Cut is in the mobile and desktop apps but not CapCut Web. For the same beat-cut format every week, a template tool such as Easy Reels saves the edit and batches it.

CapCut beat sync is a free way to make your clips change on the beat of a song. There are two ways to do it: let Auto Cut slice the clips for you, or mark the beats and trim to them yourself. The first is faster; the second gives you control over every cut.

Below are both methods, step by step, how to fix a beat sync edit that feels off, and where CapCut stops saving you time. CapCut moves menus between versions, and some labels differ by region and device, so if a button isn't where we describe it, look for the same name in the toolbar. Checked October 2026.

How do you beat sync in CapCut automatically?

Auto Cut does the cutting. CapCut's help pages describe it on mobile and desktop; it isn't available in CapCut Web.

On a phone (iOS or Android):

  1. Start a new project and add your clips.
  2. Open Auto Cut. CapCut's help puts it in the Templates or AI creation area; depending on your version it may be labelled differently.
  3. Choose music as the trigger and pick a song from CapCut's library or your device.
  4. Let it generate, then preview. Swap clips or trim by hand where the cut lands on the wrong moment.
  5. Export.

On desktop (Windows or Mac):

  1. Put your clips on the timeline.
  2. Open Auto Cut from the AI tools and choose Beat Sync.
  3. Adjust the sensitivity and the minimum clip length if your version offers them. Higher sensitivity means more cuts.
  4. Apply, review the timeline, and fix what you don't like.
  5. Export.

The result is a draft. It's usually good enough for a quick reel, and it's a fine starting point for a careful one.

How do you beat sync in CapCut by hand with beat markers?

Use beat markers when you want to choose which beats get a cut. This is the classic beat sync edit: the music tells you where, you decide what.

  1. Add the song first, then your clips.
  2. Select the audio track on the timeline.
  3. Mark the beats. Use automatic beat detection (the flag icon for beats) to place markers along the track. Or move the playhead and add a beat marker yourself at each spot you want a cut.
  4. Trim each clip to a marker. Drag the end of the clip until it snaps to the flag. Work left to right.
  5. Thin out the markers. Don't cut on every flag. Cut on the strong beats and leave the rest.
  6. Play it back at full speed and fix any cut that feels late.

Marking by hand takes longer, but you can put your best shot exactly on the drop. How to cut a video to the beat covers the manual method in more depth.

Why does my CapCut beat sync feel off?

Usually one of four reasons:

ProblemWhy it happensFix
Frantic, tiring editA cut on every beat of a fast songCut every second beat, or on the downbeat
Cuts feel a little lateThe marker sits after the drum hitMove the cut a frame or two earlier
Cuts land on nothingSoft music with no clear drumPick a track with a hard kick or snare
Wrong moment in each clipAuto Cut picked the in pointTrim each clip to its best second

The downbeat, the first beat of each bar, is where most good edits put the big changes. What is a downbeat explains how to hear it, and how many cuts in a reel does the arithmetic for your song's tempo.

What are the limits of CapCut beat sync?

CapCut is free and capable, and for a one-off reel it's often the right tool. The limits show up when you repeat the same video:

  • Every video starts from zero. Auto Cut doesn't remember your last edit. Next week you pick the song, add clips and fix the cuts again.
  • No batches. One project, one video. Ten versions means ten projects.
  • Your style lives in your head. The font, the colour look, the text position: you set them each time, or copy a project and swap clips by hand.
  • Not on the web. Auto Cut needs the mobile or desktop app.

If you make one reel a week, none of that matters much. If you post daily, or for several accounts, it's where the hours go.

When does an automatic beat sync tool save more time than CapCut?

When the edit is the same and only the clips change. Easy Reels is a browser app built for that case. You upload a song and it detects the beats; you choose a cut style (Smart, every beat, every second beat or downbeats) and can add, move or delete cuts on the waveform. Your clips and photos are assigned to the cuts automatically, and you can swap, trim or re-roll any of them.

The difference from CapCut is that the edit is saved. A template keeps the song, the cut points, a colour filter, your text design and the folders it draws clips from. The next video is one click and pulls different clips. A batch makes 10 videos on Pro or 50 on Ultra, and copy pools let each one carry a different hook. Output is a 1440x2560 vertical MP4 of up to 60 seconds.

What Easy Reels doesn't do: it isn't a timeline editor, there's no free plan, and there's no mobile app. It starts with a 14-day free trial with full access; after that Pro is $19 a month and Ultra $39, and you can cancel before the trial ends without paying. See pricing.

Pick by how often you post:

  • One reel now and then: CapCut Auto Cut, free.
  • One careful video with hand-placed cuts: CapCut beat markers.
  • The same format every week, or many accounts: a template tool like Easy Reels. Best beat sync apps compares the other options, and CapCut alternatives covers other reasons people switch.

Open your next CapCut project, try Auto Cut on one song, then fix the cuts with markers until it lands.

Common questions

Does CapCut have automatic beat sync?

Yes. Auto Cut (Beat Sync on desktop) cuts your clips to the beat of a song you choose. It's in the mobile and desktop apps, not CapCut Web.

Is CapCut beat sync free?

Auto Cut and beat markers are in the free apps. Some templates and effects are paid, so if a template asks for Pro, build the edit in the normal editor instead.

Can I beat sync in CapCut on a computer?

Yes, in the desktop app for Windows or Mac. Open Auto Cut from the AI tools and pick Beat Sync, or mark beats on the audio track and trim to them.

Why won't CapCut detect the beats in my song?

The track probably has no clear drum hit, which is common with ambient or acoustic music. Pick a song with a strong kick or snare, or place the markers by hand where you hear the beat.
